Ocarina of Time Remake

Ocarina of Time Remake Adds Jump Button, Free Camera, Launches Nov. 5

Nintendo has confirmed that its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, bringing a dedicated jump command and improved free camera control to one of the most influential games of the Nintendo 64 era.

The new details were revealed during Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8. Series producer Eiji Aonuma also demonstrated the remake in action, giving players a closer look at how Nintendo is modernizing the 1998 adventure while keeping its original structure and identity intact.

Manual Jumping and Free Camera Change How the Classic Plays

One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a dedicated jump command.

In the original Ocarina of Time, Link generally jumped automatically when running toward the edge of a platform or ledge. The Switch 2 remake gives players direct control over jumping instead, allowing them to decide when Link leaves the ground.

Nintendo describes the broader update as offering “Greater Movement and Control.” Players will also be able to run freely using newly added button commands and control the camera with the right stick.

Camera movement has been expanded considerably compared with the original game. Nintendo says players can freely move the camera around fully remodeled locations, giving familiar areas a more dynamic feel and revealing environmental details that were harder or impossible to see from the original game’s more restricted viewpoints.

Nintendo World Report also confirmed that the remake replaces the original auto-jump system with a jump button and introduces free camera control.

Visuals, Dialogue and Music Get Major Upgrades

The control changes are only part of the remake.

Nintendo says Ocarina of Time has been rebuilt with completely overhauled visuals, expanded character dialogue, fully voiced cutscenes and symphonic orchestral music.

Locations have also been remodeled with additional environmental detail, while the day-and-night cycle will now continue even when Link enters towns.

That is a notable change from the original adventure and should make Hyrule feel more continuous as players move between different areas.

The remake also introduces a feature called Threads of Time. Players will be able to check their current story progress and see their next objective at any point during the adventure.

A large tapestry gradually fills in as Link’s journey continues, providing a visual record of progression through the story.

Players Can Hum Ocarina Songs Into the Switch 2

Nintendo is also making use of the Switch 2’s built-in microphone.

Players will be able to hum one of the melodies Link has learned, and the game will recognize it and have Link perform the corresponding song on his ocarina.

Nintendo is also planning two physical ocarina accessories for later in 2026.

One will be a playable musical instrument, while an electronic version from HORI will be able to play individual notes or complete songs at the press of a button.

Nintendo has not yet announced specific release dates for either accessory.

Zelda Notes Adds Quizzes, Challenges and a Virtual Ocarina

The remake will also work with Zelda Notes, Nintendo’s game-specific service inside the Nintendo Switch App.

Several new features are being added specifically for Ocarina of Time.

Today’s Record will let players review their daily accomplishments and statistics, including how many enemies they have defeated.

Gossip Quest will challenge players to locate places in the game using hint images displayed on their smart device. Completing those challenges can earn points toward musical scores used with the app’s ocarina feature.

Play Ocarina turns the phone touchscreen into a virtual ocarina. Players can perform freely, follow a guide, let songs play automatically or create musical scores that can be shared through QR codes.

Nintendo is also introducing an Ocarina of Time Quiz containing more than 2,000 questions, images and other challenges. Players can take the quiz once each day or spend in-game rupees for additional attempts.

Ocarina of Time Remake Launches November 5

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

The digital edition is priced at $59.99, while the physical edition is listed at $69.99. The first physical print run will also feature special packaging with textured foil cover art while supplies last.

Nintendo is also marking the Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary with new hardware.

A special Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition will arrive on October 29, one week before the game. Nintendo is also releasing anniversary editions of the Switch 2 Pro Controller and a carrying case, all featuring Triforce-inspired designs.

New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures are planned for 2027. Nintendo says they will unlock special in-game masks designed with a retro graphical style.

Nintendo has not announced similar remake treatments for other Nintendo 64-era Zelda games such as Majora’s Mask.

For now, the combination of manual jumping, freer camera movement, expanded environments and Switch 2-specific features makes this version of Ocarina of Time considerably more than a straightforward visual remaster.
